Welcome back to the PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams poker room here in Macau for our continued coverage of the Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP). The room is a little chilly today, and we’re not just talking about the air conditioning. It’s Day 3 of the Main Event, and while that thought is scary enough, it’s also October 31st. That means it’s Halloween. Oooooooooh!
Halloween is actually not widely celebrated in this region. Certainly back home in Australia, Halloween is not a day that many would care too much about. Maybe a few kids will take the opportunity to try and scoff some candy from the neighbours, but that’s about it.
We’re not sure if Halloween is taken more seriously here in Macau. They certainly like a good party in Macau, so Halloween is probably as good an excuse as any, but we’re not expecting to see too many costumes this evening.
However we do have a few Americans with us here in Macau, and we all know how much they love Halloween. A couple of the media team have flown in from the States, and our very own PokerStars.tv hostess Sarah Grant is rumoured to be going the full mile with her Halloween costume. She’s yet to make an appearance today, so clearly the make-up artists are hard at work. Keep an eye out for some frightening videos later in the day from Sarah (if she can get past security).
Another American is our Main Event chip leader in Kevin Schulz.
He’s not in costume and he really has nothing to be scared about at the moment. He’s way out in front with a chip stack of 311,600. With only one other opponent even above 200k, Schulz has plenty of room to abuse his opponents as the field narrows towards the money.
And that’s where things might get a bit scary for some of our players. We have 72 returning but we’ve only got 25 spots in the money. That means that most of these players will have toiled for the best part of three days for no reward. Later on in the day, the short stacks will be nervous and they will definitely have a few frights as they try desperately to reach the cash.
