41 players entered the virtual octagon in SCOOP Event #41-H, and only one victor was left standing. The High Roller heads-up SCOOP title was determined by a final match between Alexander “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis and carrycakes. In order to advance to the finals, Sussie Smith defeated several notables: PokerStars Team Online Ike Haxton, forhayley, 26071985, and SkaiWalkurrr. On the other side of the bracket, carrycakes made it to the finals after knocking out the likes of Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond, DongerKim, Trueteller, and KTPOKP.

In the finals, Alexander “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis jumped out to an early lead and carrycakes was on the ropes for the majority of their match. Unable to get any traction or momentum going, carrycakes failed to launch a successful comeback. A relentless Sussie Smith took advantage of the ever-expanding chip differential and it was only a matter of time before carrycakes went busto. Alexander “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis won five heads-up matches in a row to become the newest SCOOP champion.

SCOOP Event #41-H $21,000 NL Heads-Up High Roller attracted 41 heads-up specialists. They boosted the prize pool to $840,500. Only the top 8 places paid out, with $294,175.00 locked up for the eventual heads-up maestro.

SCOOP Event #41-H: QUARTERFINALS:
SkaiWalkurrr defeated raidalot
KTPOKP defeated wizowizo
Sussie Smith defeated 26071985
carrycakes defeated Trueteller

raidalot eliminated in 8th place

Propelled by an auspicious lead, SkaiWalkurrr had raidalot on the run almost instantly. The two would eventually tussle in a crucial hand. If raidalot won, then he doubled up to fade an elimination. If SkaiWalkurrr, then a spot in the semi-finals was awaiting.

raidalot min-raised to 160 and SkaiWalkurrr called. On a flop of 10♣ 7♥ 5♥ , SkaiWalkurrr checked, raidalot fired out 166, SkaiWalkurrr check-raised to 600 raidalot jammed all-in for 3,252 and SkaiWalkurrr called.

SkaiWalkurrr: Q♦ 10♥
raidalot: 8♣ 6♣

The turn was the 2♣ and the river was the 3♥ . SkaiWalkurrr flopped a pair of tens which ended up being good enough to win the pot. raidalot flopped an open-ended straight draw and picked up a club flush re-draw on the turn. However, raidalot failed to improve and whiffed on a both draws. No straight. No flush. Nadda.

SkaiWalkurrr won the pot and became the first player to advance to Day 2 and the semifinals. The U.K.’s raidalot took home $52,531.25 for an eighth-place finish.

wizowizo eliminated in 7th place

KTPOKP was the second player to advance to Day 2 and the semifinals. KTPOKP amassed a significant lead (roughly 17K to 3K). Short-stacked wizowizo got it all-in with K♦ K♥ , which were brutally cracked by KTPOKP’s 5â™  5♥ . The board ran out 6♥ 5♣ 3♥ 10â™  8♦ and KTPOKP won the pot after flopping a set of fives. Germany’s wizowizo went busto in seventh place, which paid out $52,531.25.

26071985 eliminated in 6th place

The linchpin pot that pretty much determined the outcome of this quarterfinal occurred when Sussie Smith flopped a set of sixes and rivered a boat to win a decisive pot worth 19,664. In that hand, 26071985 missed a straight draw and was crippled. Sussie Smith finally delivered the fatal blow nine hands later.

On a flop of 6♦ 5♥ 2♥ , Sussie Smith checked, 26071985 bet 204, Sussie Smith check-raised 450, 26071985 shoved for 1,444 and Sussie Smith called.

Sussie Smith: 10♥ 4♥
26071985: 10♣ 6♥

Sussie Smith got it all in with a flush draw and a gutter. 26071985 only held top pair. The turn was the Q♣ and the 8♥ spiked on the river. Sussie Smith rivered a ten-high flush to win the pot. 26071985’s paltry pair of sixes were not good enough to stave off elimination. The U.K.’s 26071985 was knocked out in sixth place, which paid out $52,531.25.

Trueteller eliminated in 5th place

Trueteller was crippled after losing a 18.8K pot when A♦ 10♣ was run down by carrycakes’ Q♣ 7♣ . Trueteller flopped a pair of tens (versus carrycakes’s pair of sevens), but carrycakes rivered two pair to win the pot. Nine hands later, it would be all over.

SCOOP Event #41-H – SEMI-FINALS:
Table 1: carrycakes vs. KTPOKP
Table 2: Sussie Smith vs. SkaiWalkurrr

The semi-finals included three well-known highstakes regulars: Tobias “KTPOKP” Kuder, Alexander “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis, and Rachid Ben “SkaiWalkurrr” Cherif.

Some of the early rounds in Event #41-H featured matches that lasted three or more hours, yet both semi-final matches progressed somewhat quick. One barely lasted three levels, while the other semi-final match was decided in less than five levels.

Tobias “KTPOKP” Kuder eliminated in 4th place

In the first level, carrycakes struck first blood by winning an early pot worth 4K. carrycake followed up that initial blow by embarking on mini-rush by winning 11 consecutive pots. carrycakes extended the lead 17K to 3K. The match was less than a few minutes old and KTPOKP was already on the ropes.

After fading a bustout in the rest of Level 1 and successfully navigating Level 2 and most of Level 3, it appeared as though KTPOKP was on the cusp of launching a counter attack. However, just as KTPOKP was ready to make a move, carrycakes aggressively chipped away at the gaunt carcass known as KTPOKP’s dwindling stack.

carrycakes didn’t mess around and bombed it all-in for 18,947 and is KTPOKP called all-in for the rest of his stack. KTPOKP held a slightly stronger hand preflop with A♦ 10â™  vs. Q♦ J♥ . But when the Q♣ spiked on the river, KTPOKP’s hopes of advancing to the final table were crushed. The board finished up 6â™  6♥ 2♦ 9♦ Q♣ . KTPOKP’s pair of sixes (from the board) were no match for carrycakes’ two pair — Queens and sixes. Austria’s KTPOKP busted out in fourth place, which paid out $84,050.00.

Meanwhile, Canada’s carrycakes advanced to the next round and final table.

Rachid Ben “SkaiWalkurrr” Cherif eliminated in 3rd place

On Table 2, we witnessed a great potential matchup between two high-stakes cash game grinders: Alexander “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis and Rachid Ben “SkaiWalkurrr” Cherif. In the early levels, the two avoided any major clashes and stuck to small ball. Most of the heavy fighting occurred during Level 4. Sussie Smith dragged a 12K pot with Aâ™  K♣ after flopping an Ace. That hand gave Sussie Smith a lead 14.2K to 5.8K.

Sussie Smith didn’t back down and tried to knock out SkaiWalkurrr, however, SkaiWalkurrr avoided a bustout and doubled up with A♦ 3â™  vs. Sussie Smith’s Kâ™  8♥ . That pot was only worth 3,792, but it allowed SkaiWalkurrr to stay alive and keep fighting. SkaiWalkurrr would double up again to get his stack to a respectable 7.8K (vs. Sussie Smith’s 12.2K). Alas, Sussie Smith dragged yet another pot with Big Slick, this time flopping a King and turning an Ace for two pair. That pot put Sussie Smith to almost 17K, while SkaiWalkurrr was back to treading water with 3K.

SkaiWalkurrr went back to work and finagled a doubled up in a pot worth 6,504 when the melodic hand “Jackson Five” was victories in battle of two pairs. SkaiWalkurrr turned a better two pair with Jâ™  5♣ versus Sussie Smith, who had flopped bottom two pair with 5â™  2â™  .

Then it happened. On the final hand…

SkaiWalkurrr min-raised to 240 and Sussie Smith called. The flop was Q♥ 9♠ 9♥ . Sussie Smith check-called a 300 bet. The 7♥ fell on the turn and fireworks ensued. Sussie Smith checked, SkaiWalkurrr fired out 810, Sussie Smith check-raised to 1,920, SkaiWalkurrr shoved for 5,889 and Sussie Smith called.

Sussie Smith: A♥ 3♥
SkaiWalkurrr: K♠ 9♦

SkaiWalkurrr flopped a set of nines, but Sussie Smith had flopped a nut-flush draw. The turn filled in Sussie Smith’s flush, but SkaiWalkurrr still had some outs with a potential boat (or quads). Alas, the J♥ spiked in the river, which did not help SkaiWalkurrr. Sussie Smith won the pot with an Ace-high flush. Rachid Ben “SkaiWalkurrr” Cherif went busto in third place, which paid out $84,050.00.

Meanwhile, Sussie Smith advanced to the next round, which happened to be the finals.

At the end of a mellow Level 2, Sussie Smith led 14.3K to carrycakes’ 5.7K. At the end of Level 3, Sussie Smith opened up almost a 4-1 edge by winning small pots and chipping away at carrycakes’ remaining stack.

Near the start of Level 4, Sussie Smith continued to siphon off chips from carrycakes’ stack, which at that point sunk to 2K. carrycakes bombed it all-in with 8♥ 8♣ but Sussie Smith woke up with Q♣ Q♦ . A fortuitous 8♦ on the flop allowed carrycakes to win the pot with a set of eights. Sussie Smith thought the Queens would pack a mighty punch, but they failed to deliver a knockout.

Toward the end of Level 4, carrycakes doubled up in a pot worth 5,146. carrycakes flopped top pair and a flush draw, but got there on the turn. On a board of 10♦ 8♣ 2♣ 7♣ Q♠ with 1,700 in the pot, Sussie Smith bluff-shoved and carrycakes insta-called with a nut flush. Sussie Smith tabled K♦ 6♦ for nothing but air.

Level 5 lasted only nine hands before Sussie Smith terminated carrycakes. carrycakes was crippled on Hand #8 of Level 5. The board read Q♦ J♥ 5♦ 8♠ 2♦ with 1,200 in the pot. carrycakes fired out 900 (with only 345 left behind). Sussie Smith made it 1,800 to go and carrycakes folded. It was all over on the next hand.

On the final hand… carrycakes moved all-in for 345 and Sussie Smith called. carrycakes actually woke up to a decent hand A♣ 9♦ , especially since it was up against Sussie Smith’s 8â™  4â™  . The board ran out Qâ™  J♣ 10â™  9♥ 7♣ . carrycakes flopped a Broadway gutshor draw and turned a pair of nines, but that’s as good as it would get. Sussie Smith flopped a gutshot and a spade-flush draw. When the 9♥ spiked on the turn, Sussie Smith filled in a Queen-high straight. That straight held up and Sussie Smith went on to win the pot and the tournament. carrycakes busted in second place.

For a gutsy runner-up performance, Canada’s carrycakes took home $168,100.00.
