Speedy. Quick. Fast. Hurried. Brisk. Rapid. Accelerated. Swift. Mercurial. Bustling. Vivacious. Ebullient. Supersonic. Turbo. All of those thesaurus words can accurately describe the vibe of re-entry turbos.

Who doesn’t like a sprint for a shot at one final SCOOP crown? Imagine filling every nook and cranny inside London’s 02 Arena (20,000 capacity) with another 10,000 people outside waiting in a queue to get inside. Even then I don’t think it’s a proper visual example trying to explain just how gigantic the field was during Event #45-L, and one of the concluding “Wrap-Up” events on the 2014 SCOOP schedule.

When the running of the virtual bulls was finally over, Russia’s ElmanOne was the sole survivor and newest SCOOP champion. ElmanOne pulled off a remarkable, yet dominating feat by knocking out every single person at the final table en route to a victory.

SCOOP Event #45-L $11 NL [Turbo, Re-Entry] attracted 30,431 entrants, comprised of 18,727 original entries and 11,704 re-entries. This re-entry event boosted the prize pool to $304,310.00. Only the top 3,960 places paid out, with $28,169.32 set aside for the eventual champ. Players were allowed up to three re-entries until late-reg ended (90 minutes).

Team Poker Stars Pros attempting a shot at a SCOOP title in this re-entry event included Victor Ramdin (2x), George Danzer (2x), Leo Fernandez, David Williams, Lex Veldhuis (2x), Andre Akkari (2x), Johnny Lodden, Marcin Horecki, Matthias De Meulder (2x), and Christophe De Meulder (3x). PokerStars Team Online grinding their way in this event included nanonoko (2x), frosty012, Jorj95 (3x), nkeyno, mement_mori (2x) and acoimbra (4x).

Several familiar faces (among Team PokerStars Pros and Team Online) cashed including Victor Ramdin (104th), Leo Fernandez (375th), George Danzer (604th), George “Jorj95” Lind (1,212th), and David Williams (2,589th). Short-stacked Danzer ran into Pozo82’s Q♠ Q♣ and busted in 604th place. Leo Fernandez bombed it all-in with K♠ Q♥ and lost to gosukrul A♣ 7♣ . Leo was knocked out in 375th place. With 200 to go, Ramdin was in the Top 15 in chips with approximately 1.5M. Alas, that’s as high as he’d get. Ramdin’s deep run came to an end when he bowed out in 104th place.

The final table commenced during Level 55 with blinds at 700K/1.4M an a 175K ante. klauskraft was the super-super short stack, while WaterSt0rm sat atop the leader board with a healthy army of chips worth 42.3M. Notables at the final table included claudiu_pana, who won SCOOP Event #8-L almost two weeks ago and was seeking his second champion’s watch this series.

klauskraft eliminated in 9th place

First hand, first bustout. The final nine were not even settled into their seats before the first player bit the dust. With the antes at 175K, klauskraft was all-in in the ante for 158,908, holding K♥ 8♠ . ElmanOne attempted to pick off the shorty with A♠ Q♦ . The board ran out 5♦ 4♥ 3♠ 4♣ Q♥ . ElmanOne missed a Wheel draw, yet won the pot with two pair — Queens and fours. Germany’s klauskraft became the first player to exit the final table. For a ninth-place finish, klauskraft earned $1,481.98.

JAJAJANOU eliminated in 8th place

ElmanOne min-raised to 2.8M, JAJAJANOU shoved for 8,590,288 with Q♦ Q♥ , and ElmanOne called with A♦ 6♣ . JAJAJANOU led with pocket Queens, but an Ace on the flop spelled doom. The board finished up A♠ K♠ 10♣ K♣ K♥ . JAJAJANOU lost to ElmanOne’s full boat — Kings full of Aces. For an eighth-place performance, JAJAJANOU collected $2,519.68

claudiu_pana eliminated in 7th place

Shorty claudiu_pana open-shoved for 3,289,655 with A♦ 3♣ , and ElmanOne called from the big blind, hoping to pick off the short stack with 10♥ 3♥ . The flop was 10♦ 6♦ 5♣ and ElmanOne grabbed the lead. The 2♥ fell on the turn and claudiu_pana picked up a Wheel gutshot draw. The 8♣ on the river did not help claudiu_pana and ElmanOne won the pot with a pair of tens. Romania’s claudiu_pana busted out in seventh place, which paid out $3,703.45.

With six to go, WaterSt0rm was out in front with approximately 50M and pokerbratt78 was bringing up the rear with 6M.

ElmanOne min-raised to 3.2M, pokerbratt78 bombed it all-in for 5,650,344 with A♠ 7♥ , and ElmanOne snap-called with Q♣ Q♦ . The board ran out J♣ J♦ J♥ 5♠ 8♦ and ElmanOne won the pot with a full house — Jacks over Queens. The pokerbratt78 failed to improve and hit the virtual rail in sixth place, which paid out $5,334.55.

mc_palermo eliminated in 5th place

WaterSt0rm min-raised to 4M, mc_palermo shoved for 3,823,496, ElmanOne called from the small blind and Bacatali called from the big blind. Four-handed with one player all-in. The three checked it all the way to the river. The board ran out K♥ J♠ 10♥ 4♣ 8♦ and ElmanOne won the pot with 10♠ 9♦ and a pair of tens. Everyone else mucked their losing hands. For a fifth place finish, mc_palermo collected $8,000.30.

DEAL

With four to go, action was paused to discuss a deal. rulez84 held the lead with almost 47M, followed by WaterSt0rm with 41.5M, ElmanOne in third with 39M, and Bacatali bringing up the rear with 24.5M. Any deal had to leave $3,000 on the table for first place.

The chip chop numbers were floated: rulez84 ($18,968.51), WaterSt0rm ($18,014.12), ElmanOne ($17,571.79), and Bacatali ($15,004.59). Mostly everyone agreed, but Bacatali needed to consult his backer. Apparently the backer wanted $15,900 (or $900 more). WaterSt0rm rejected the counter-offer. The other two players were willing to give up some to Bacatali. New numbers were floated (with $3,000 set aside to the champion): rulez84 ($18,868.51), WaterSt0rm ($18,014.12), ElmanOne ($17,500.79), and Bacatali ($15,175.59). Everyone was in accordance with the new numbers. With a deal in place, action resumed.

ElmanOne must’ve had a coupon for a turbo bust-out special: two for the price of one. Bacatali open-shoved for 28,607,364, rulez84 called all-in for 14,798,636, and big-stacked ElmanOne called. Three-way with two players all-in for their tournament lives.

The board finished up Q♥ 10♦ 3♦ Q♣ 8♦ . ElmanOne won the main pot and side pot with two pair — Queens and nines — and took command of the chip lead in the process. rulez84’s Ace-rag failed to improve and was knocked out in fourth place, which paid out $18,868.51. Bacatali’s pocket fives failed to improve and Bacatali went busto in fourth place, which paid out $15,175.59. With the double elimination, it was down to two.

With two remaining, ElmanOne held a slight edge. But with hyper-escalating blinds in this turbo-charged environment, anything was possible.

These two did not wait to rumble. On the first hand of heads-up WaterSt0rm seized the lead as the two flip-flopped stacks when WaterSt0rm’s 9♦ 7♦ ravished ElmanOne’s Q♣ Q♥ after catching a runner-runner Jack-high straight. Four hands later, WaterSt0rm dragged a 55.6M pot after flopping a set of nines with J♠ 9♦ . WaterSt0rm surged to over 109M, while ElmanOne slipped to 42M. WaterSt0rm’s aggression continued after taking down an uncontested pot worth 50M. That hand gave WaterSt0rm a 5-1 advantage — 127M to 25M.

ElmanOne launched a counterattack and doubled up with A♦ 6♥ versus WaterSt0rm’s 2♠ 2♦ . ElmanOne doubled up again on the next hand to win a pot in excess of 86M. WaterSt0rm flopped a straight with 9♠ 7♥ , but ElmanOne’s Q♦ 10♣ turned a higher straight. ElmanOne regained the lead and was almost back to the starting stacks at heads-up. ElmanOne rode a wave of momentum winning nine consecutive hands to chip up to 107M (WaterSt0rm sunk to 45M). It was time for WaterSt0rm to go on the offensive. WaterSt0rm stopped the bleeding by winning back-to-back pots including a 21.7M pot with A♣ A♠ . Alas, that would be the last time WaterSt0rm dragged a pot.

Going into the final hand, WaterSt0rm had chipped up to almost 59M versus ElmanOne’s 93M. ElmanOne min-raised to 6M and WaterSt0rm called. The flop was A♣ J♦ 3♣ . WaterSt0rm fired out 4.5M and ElmanOne called. The 7♦ fell on the turn, WaterSt0rm bet 7.5M and ElmanOne called. The J♣ spiked on the river. It was officially the day of reckoning. WaterSt0rm checked, ElmanOne unleashed a 30M bet, WaterSt0rm bombed it all-in for 40,792,428, and ElmanOne snap-called. Both players flopped flush draws and ElmanOne also flopped a gutshot Broadway draw. Both players filled in flushes on turn. Alas, ElmanOne tabled the nuts with K♣ 10♣ versus WaterSt0rm’s Q♣ 9♣ . Rough way to go, but WaterSt0rm was knocked out in second place.

For a gutsy runner-up performance, WaterSt0rm earned $18,014.12.

Congrats to Russia’s ElmanOne for winning Event #45-L, which paid out $20,500.79 plus a sleek SCOOP champion’s watch.
