Can Billy “The Croc” Argyros do what no man before him has ever managed to achieve?

That was the big question before today began.

You see, no player has ever won two APPT titles. To be honest, the answer leaned towards the unlikely as Argyros came into the APPT8 Macau final table with the shortest stack.

But now everything has changed as Argyros is the chip leader with three remaining.

Argyros ushered in three-handed play when he dealt the fatal blow to Scottish start-of-day chip leader Thomas Mcgarrity.

It started with Mcgarrity opening to 120,000 from under the gun. Argyros then three-bet to 400,000 from the button. Back on Mcgarrity and he sat still for just a moment before announcing he was all in. Argyros snap-called and turned over A♣ A♥ – well ahead of Mcgarrity’s Aâ™  K♣ .

Mcgarrity got a little bit of help on the Jâ™  K♦ 4â™  flop, but the J♦ turn and the 4♦ river weren’t what he was looking for and with that he was sent to the rail in 4th place, collecting HK$737,000.

Following Mcgarrity’s elimination Argyros was up to over 5 million in chips, which meant he had more than half of all the chips play.

Making it to three-handed action also means Argyros has locked up HK$940,000 – roughly US$120,000. That amount brings Argyros very close to US$1.5 million in lifetime tournament earnings. But of course, Argyros will be aiming to win more than third-place money today and hopefully bring home the ~US$360,000 top prize.

Oh, and become the first player to win two APPT titles.
