Home / Uncategorized / LAPT7 Brazil: Anderson Kim bags up the chip lead as Day 1B wraps

It’s fitting that South America’s biggest city is now the home of the richest tournament ever held in Latin America. The LAPT Brazil’s two starting days yielded 1,150 entries -an LAPT record- and a prize pool totaling over R$4.4 million. 399 players survived to Day 2 (151 from Day 1A and 248 from Day 1B) and after an insane post-dinner break run, Sao Paulo local Anderson Kim bagged up the overall chip lead with 329,900. He’ll start play tomorrow with a mind-boggling 275 big blinds.

Where did all this come from?

Team Pros Andre Akkari, Christian De Leon, and Nacho Barbero struck out on Day 1A but returned for another shot on Day 1B. Although Akkari built up a 65,000 stack in the first few levels, he found zero traction after the dinner break and hit the rail in Level 9.

De Leon held steady for most of the day, hovering around 40,000 in chips. Late in the evening he picked up Aâ™  10â™  and raised from UTG. He got three callers and hit top pair on a T-5-2 rainbow flop. De Leon made a 4,500 continuation bet into the 7,000 pot and was met with a raise to 11,000 from an opponent who only held another 15,000 behind. De Leon shoved and his opponent snap-called, tabling A-K. Although the turn card was safe, a king spiked on the river and De Leon watched the 75,000 pot shipped the other direction. Left with only 2,300 after the hand, he busted a short time later.

Christian “el grillo” De Leon

Nacho Barbero left his Day 1A blues behind and in between hands of Pineapple Open-Face Chinese on his iPhone, he ground up a 53,800 stack. He’ll join fellow Team Pros Leo Fernandez and Angel Guillen in tomorrow’s field.

Re-entries make for a happy Nacho

Team Online’s Caio Pessagno spent most of the day short stacked and on the live stream’s featured table. He was nearly done for when he was all-in with A-9 against two players with A-J, but flopped a nine to triple up. However, he hit a rush in the last level and finished the day well above average with 96,600.

Other Day 1B notables advancing to Day 2 include high-stakes cash game player Gabriel “verve.oasis” Goffi (88,000), BSOP/BPT champion Jorge Breda (113,200), Ivan Marquez (50,400), Walid Mubarak (63,500), Fabio Colonese (143,800), WSOP bracelet winner Alexandre Gomes (35,600), Bill Gazes (53,000) and Igianne Bertoldi (56,700).
