Most people reading our Aussie Millions coverage may not have heard of the name Yew Fatt Kan, but as the man with the biggest stack in the Crown Poker Room, he’s a man worth getting to know.

Former Malaysian resident, now playing under the flag of Hong Kong, “Raiden” Kan a regular in the PokerStars LIVE Macau Poker Room with a string of results dating back to 2009. However he is best known for his victory in the 2011 Macau Poker Cup Championship for HK$1,250,000 in prize money (around $160,000).

Since that result, Kan has been extremely consistent on the Asian poker scene. He finished on the final table of the ACOP Main Event in November for another six-figure score, and just last week he ended up ended runner-up in the first major event at the brand new PokerStars LIVE Manila Poker Room in the Philippines.

We don’t tend to see Kan travel to events too often, and just this week he added the first Australian flag to his Hendon Mob record when he took seventh place in the $25,000 Challenge. However that result wasn’t as straight forward as it appears.

It turns out that Kan wasn’t thrilled when he saw the structure shifted to six-handed play for Day 2 and shared his disapproval with APPT President Danny McDonagh. Once the tournament had started, it was a bit late to back out, but once Kan was safely in the money, McDonagh changed his tune.

“Raiden, we’ve now reconsidered you’re request, and yes, you can forfeit your chips and receive a refund!” joked McDonagh, but by then Kan was pretty happy to take his chances, and in the end his seventh place was worth a handsome $125,000.

Now Kan has carried his good form over into the Main Event. He finished Day 3 as an overwhelming chip leader and has continued that form on Day 4. A short time ago, he was still in contention for the chip lead, alongside Brian Rast, with just a dozen players left.

It’s been carnage on Day 3 with 18 players eliminated within the first two levels of play, including Phil Ivey in 23rd place when his top pair and flush draw was bettered by Anthony Legg who turned the nut flush.
