While much of the poker world was enthralled with “play down” day on Tuesday — that is, the day the World Series of Poker Main Event played down to a final nine players — the Super Tuesday went on as usual on PokerStars, the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold’em tournament that routinely attracts many of poker’s best.

This week’s tournament drew a smaller field than typical of 406 players, though that meant a $406,000 prize pool that was still good enough to best the tournament’s $400K guarantee. It took about 10-and-a-half-hours to find a winner, and when the last hand was dealt Germany’s Cashcid Linc had collected all of the chips and the biggest share of that prize pool, taking away a handsome $77,911.40 first prize.

It took about five-and-a-half hours to play down to 54 players, and with the money bubble having burst it was mahmuttt88 in the top spot as the only one among them with more than 100,000 chips.

About 90 minutes later they were down to 18. mahmuttt888 was still in the hunt with an average stack, while king2173 had moved up into first position.

Robert “PlayaPlz” Lipkin (18th), AB_Poker_12 (17th), and Brayden “BRAYDEN93” Fritzshall (16th) were the next out, earning $3,654 apiece. Shyam “G’s zee” Srinivasan (15th), RumleyChamp (14th), and Little Kraut (13th) followed, each cashing for $4,466. Then youngblood51 (12th), mahmuttt888 (11th), and Kekkhou (10th) each successively hit the rail, picking up $5,278 each for their efforts.

With Vakio¤Ässä the new chip leader sporting a stack of nearly 470,000, the final table was underway.

Seat 4: Russell “rdcrsn” Carson (Canada) — 93,009
Seat 5: king2173 (Austria) — 180,793
Seat 6: 1TheSpiteful (Slovenia) — 274,075
Seat 7: Cashcid Linc (Germany) — 172,163
Seat 8: Vakio¤Ässä (Finland) — 468,240
Seat 9: bartek901 (Mexico) — 227,194

The final nine battled for about 15 minutes, then suddenly came three knockouts in three consecutive hands.

In the first Russell “rdcrsn” Carson open pushed from middle position for just over 30,000 (a little over four big blinds) and was called by both king2173 sitting next to him and bartek901 in the big blind. The other two checked the 4♦ 10♦ J♦ flop, then bartek901 led at the J♣ turn and king2173 folded.

bartek901 had A♣ 10♠ and Carson Q♣ 10♣ , meaning both had tens and jacks but rdcrsn was outkicked. The river was the 9♣ , and Carson was out in ninth.

The next hand saw O”Pazzzo” open-raising all in from UTG for almost 90,000 (just over 12 BBs) with 6♣ 6â™  and get called by Cashcid Linc in late position with Jâ™  J♦ . The board rolled out K♥ 5â™  Q♣ 3â™  4♣ , and O”Pazzzo” was done in eighth.

Then the very next hand after that saw leader Vakio¤Ässä raise a little more than 2x to 15,264 from middle position, bartek901 call from next position, then cwirek1982 reraise-push for nearly 118,000 total from the big blind. Only bartek901 called, showing 5♥ 5â™  versus cwirek1982’s K♥ Q♥ , and after the board came 3♥ 6♣ 4♥ 6â™  6♦ , bartek901 had a full house and cwirek1982’s tournament run had ended in seventh.

The nine-hour break arrived, and about 15 minutes later the blinds were 4,000/8,000 when king2173 opened for 17,760 from the button and got a single caller in Cashcid Linc from the big blind. The flop came 10♣ K♣ 6♥ and both checked, then after the Q♣ turn Cashcid Linc checked again. king2173 took that opening to fire a bet of 19,999, Cashcid Linc check-raised to 52,322, king2173 pushed all in for just under 160,000, and Cashcid Linc called.

Cashcid Linc had J♣ 6♦ for a pair of sixes and an open-ended straight draw while king2173 turned over K♥ K♠ for a set of kings. The river then brought the 9♣ , filling a straight for Cashcid Linc and sending king2173 away in sixth.

Shortly after that hand, bartek901 open-pushed for 82,650 from the button, DEX888 reraise-shoved over the top from the small blind, and 1TheSpiteful folded the big blind. DEX888 had 9♦ 9♣ and the preflop edge versus bartek901’s J♣ 9â™  , and five cards later — 4♣ 8♣ 6♣ 5â™  Q♥ — the nines had held and bartek901 was eliminated in fifth.

A hand soon arose thereafter in which Cashcid Linc limped in for 12,000 from UTG, then DEX888 raised all in for 134,639 from the small blind. Cashcid Linc called, showing A♦ 9♦ while DEX888 had 10â™  10♣ . The Q♥ 4♥ J♥ turn was safe for DEX888, then the 10♦ fell on the turn to improve DEX888 trips. Then came the river — the K♦ — filling a gutshot to Broadway for Cashcid Linc and knocking DEX888 out in fourth.

The final trio made it almost to the 10-hour mark when 1TheSpiteful shipped from the button for 156,378 and got one caller in Cashcid Linc in the small blind. Cashcid Linc had J♦ Jâ™  and 1TheSpiteful A♣ 7♦ , the 5â™  10♣ 10♦ Q♥ 8♣ board didn’t help the all-in player, and 1TheSpiteful was sent railward in third.

Having collected those knockouts meant Cashcid Linc carried a better than 3-to-1 chip lead to heads-up play with 1,542,391 to Vakio¤Ässä’s 487,609.

Vakio¤Ässä kept the battle going for about a half-hour, but was still sitting with just over 600,000 when a hand came up in which Vakio¤Ässä raised just over 2x to 33,920 from the button, Cashcid Linc reraised to 87,233, Vakio¤Ässä four-bet to 167,233, and Cashcid Linc called.

Both checked the 2♣ 4♥ K♦ flop, then after the J♥ turn Cashcid Linc shoved and Vakio¤Ässä called with the 437,306 remaining.

Cashcid Linc: Kâ™  9â™
Vakio¤Ässä: 9♦ 9♥

Vakio¤Ässä was drawing thin with those nines versus the flopped pair of kings of Cashcid Linc. The river was the Jâ™  and it was all over — Cashcid Linc had won.

Congratulations to Cashcid Linc for topping this week’s Super Tuesday field to earn the victory and a nearly $78K score.
