Home / Uncategorized / IPT Malta: Heitmann making his Maltese debut

The EPT Malta festival marks Jan Heitmann’s first ever trip to the island in the centre of the Mediterranean. During the last break, the ever-smiling Team PokerStars Pro took a few minutes to discuss his day so far and his plans for 2015.

So, how is the tournament so far Jan?

It’s kinda going slow for me, I was up like 300 chips and then down a couple of thousand, I have about 20,000 or so now which about 70 big blinds for the next level so there’s still lots of room. It’s a long day.

It’s pretty busy so far here today, isn’t it?

There’s more than a thousand right now? There’s 1,200? I didn’t really know what to expect because this is the first time that the EPT has come to Malta and I don’t think anyone really knew what was going to happen, but it’s turned out to be one of the really nice EPT’s. I like the venue.

Have you been to Malta before or is this your first time?

I’ve never been to Malta before so this is really nice. I’ve walked around a little on the island so far. I have to catch up a bit on my Malta history – I hear the Brits are involved a lot?

We do have a habit of getting involved in world affairs. How is the table playing? You’re sharing it with one of the De Meulder twins? It doesn’t look that easy.

I thought it was alright but it’s kinda tight and everyone knows what they’re doing so I’l see what happens and how they’re all fairing by hour nine or ten…

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

Easter is coming up so I’m going to be at home with my family, visiting the grandparents. I’m not going to go to Monte Carlo, that’s a new thing for me. I’ve been to Monte Carlo a lot of times, but I can’t make it because of scheduling conflicts. I’m doing a seminar with a couple of other poker coaches in Majorca. I might stop by Monte Carlo for one or two events but I haven’t yet decided. It’s about getting better at poker, I’m doing it with a couple of German and Austrian coaches.

And then heading to the World Series of Poker?

Yes, the World Series is the plan. I haven’t yet decided yet. I’m not going to do the whole eight weeks, it’s too long, especially with kids. It’s really tough to have a family-friendly vacation in Vegas without spending lots of money. I’m going to playing the tournaments and you can’t really [take the kids and] play outside because it’s too hot. It’s a long flight and I have three kids and the little one isn’t even a year old, so that’s not going to happen.

I’m definitely going to go play the main event, I still have an unsettled tab with that event. I’ve cashed like four times in the main event, the best result was in 2012 when I got 26th. That was really…I could actually count the number of people left. I want to count them again but less people this time!

I’m thinking about going to Vegas before that as well for the Colossus and the Millionaire-Maker because they’re going to be huge and they should be really exciting. I have to talk to the family about that though, I’m not sure my wife is going to like the idea of going back-and-forth and back-and-forth again, but we’ll see!

IPT Malta update:
